The Arizona Department of Public Safety’s (AZDPS) goals include reducing fatalities from impaired driving, speeding, aggressive driving and lack of occupant protection.Drivers will notice a large presence of troopers throughout the state, especially within the holiday safety corridors beginning on November 23rd and continuing through November 27th.

Holiday safety corridors:

• I-17 between north Phoenix and Flagstaff
• I-10 between Phoenix and Tucson
• SR 87 between Mesa and Payson

Last year during the Thanksgiving travel period, troopers investigated 149 collisions where a driver was cited for a speed violation and investigated three fatal collisions statewide. In 2014, troopers investigated four fatal collisions during the same period.

Before traveling, prepare by reviewing traffic tips, checking road and weather conditions and carrying supplies in case of an emergency.

“Speeding is typically a primary or secondary factor in serious injury or fatal collisions. Troopers will be looking for drivers traveling above the posted speed limits, impaired drivers, distracted driving behavior and tired drivers,” said Captain Eric Anspach with the Highway Patrol Division.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety is a state-level law enforcement agency whose mission is to protect human life and property by enforcing state laws, deterring criminal activity and providing vital support to the State of Arizona and its citizens.
