Truck Driver Shot In Buckeye Changes His Story

A male truck driver sustained a gunshot wound to his lower left leg in Buckeye early Friday morning, according to Department of Public Safety.

DPS and Buckeye police investigated the scene near Market Street and Verrado Way.

Initial reports indicated he was shot while driving on Interstate 10.

However, after investigating, it is unclear where the incident occurred, DPS said.

The driver was transported to the hospital and the incident was still under investigation.

And then the story changed.

The big-rig driver later admitted to investigators he had accidentally shot himself.

The gunshot-wound victim pulled off the freeway at Verrado Way and was transported to a hospital, according to DPS Trooper Kameron Lee.

Officials early Friday said they were investigating where the gunshot came from.

In an updated statement released Friday evening, DPS said the man accidentally shot himself.

“During an investigative interview with the commercial truck driver, he admitted to state detectives, that he accidentally shot himself within the cab of the commercial truck and falsely reported having been the victim of a shooting,” the DPS statement said.

DPS said the investigation was continuing.
