What is the most important issue facing the city?

Orsborn:The most important issue to us right now is economic development. We have to broaden our economic base and diversify our economy by bringing new jobs to the city. To accomplish this, we have short-term and long-term goals. Today, we are making the city more competitive by marketing Buckeye and working with major organizations like Greater Phoenix Economic Council and the Arizona Commerce Authority to promote our unique advantages. We are focusing on infrastructure investments to create shovel-ready development sites. And we are collaborating with the private sector to create public-private partnerships where possible.

As a council member, what specifically what would you do to address that issue?

Orsborn: We will continue to take steps to attract new business and grow existing business in the community. This will be done by marketing Buckeye with the Economic Development and Marketing Department that has formed over the past four years during my term. We are currently building the necessary infrastructure to deliver water and sewer to key economic development opportunities. We now have several strategic partnerships with the development community to create public/private partnerships that expedite the locating of businesses to Buckeye. We are implementing best practices within the city to encourage and expedite relocations. I’m working on the regional level with the ACA, MAG, and GPEC to attract businesses here.

What, specifically, makes you the best person for the job?

Orsborn: I have over 20 years of construction, project management and development experience working on the projects that we will see in the next 50 years in the city. I have a thorough understanding of the issues that the city of Buckeye is facing both today and in the future. I have relationships that I have built both in the community and at the regional level that will grow not only Buckeye but also the entire West Valley. I’m willing to have the candid conversations about the decisions we are making, not spin tough truths to scare or intimidate voters. I spend time educating voters and residents about what’s happening and why we are making decisions that can be challenging today, but they are the right thing for long into our future.
