Buckeye Valley Museum Opens With New Feature “The Rest of the Story” Exhibits

Buckeye Valley Museum Opens Friday, Sept. 9

Four engaging and memorable exhibits detailing the headlines, holidays and travels of historic Buckeye and the 50-year history of the community’s Melodrama will be featured when the Buckeye Valley Museum opens its doors for the season on Friday, Sept. 9.

Museum Supervisor Chris Larson said this season’s “The Rest of the Story” exhibits will include

  • In the Headlines – Buckeye’s front page news – September and October
  • Holidays Past – November and December
  • The Journey: Pioneer Days to Buckeye Days – January and February, and
  • The Melodrama – Celebrating 50 Years – March through May.

In addition, the Buckeye Valley Historical Society is kicking off a fundraiser to renovate the outside of the museum facility, 116 E. MC Highway 85, on the eastern edge of the city’s historical downtown.

“The redo at the museum started in 2014 when we transformed the inside of the museum, creating realistic and detailed exhibits and experiences to better connect visitors with historic Buckeye,” Larson said.

The first exhibit, “In the Headlines – Buckeye’s Front Page News” – will feature original Buckeye Valley News front page headlines reaching over a dozen decades, dating back to the 1912 founding of the local newspaper.

Larson said museum staff is inviting residents to help tell the four stories in this year’s exhibits by loaning historical items they feel could complement this year’s exhibits.  Please contact Larson at 623-349-6312 or [email protected] for more information.

The museum is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.  Group tours and school field trips can be arranged by contacting Larson.
